Horizon League Conference Tournament Preview and Predictions

The Horizon League  conference tournament begins on Tuesday, March 5th. The first 2 rounds will take place at campus sites hosted by the highest seed. The semi finals and championship will be played at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, IN. The championship will be at 7 PM on Tuesday, March 12th.

Here are some teams to watch in this tournament:

#1 Oakland : Oakland won the Horizon league regular season title going 15-5 in conference. They also picked up an upset win @ Xavier early in the season. They are a deep and experienced team that is well rounded on both sides of the ball. It’s also worth noting they won both regular season games against #2 seed and betting favorite to win the title, Youngstown State.

#2 Youngstown State: Youngstown State has the best betting odds to win the Horizon League tournament. They are an extremely experienced team, as the top 5 players in minutes for them are all seniors. This team can struggle to shoot at times but they don’t turn the ball over much, crash the offensive glass, and play strong defense. Youngstown State also has 7 foot 3 Freshman Gabe Dynes who can be a force on defense. This team can beat you in a number of ways and it’s easy to see why they are considered the favorite.

#4 Wright State: I’m picking Wright State to win this tournament and it’s solely because of how good their offense is when it’s clicking. Ranked #32 in offensive efficiency nationally per T-rank, Wright State can drop 100 any given night. This team doesn’t have a lot of size or play much defense, but I believe their guard play is as good as it gets in the horizon league and if they can string together a couple of good shooting nights as they often do, it will be tough to take them down.

#6 Milwaukee : Milwaukee is coming into this tournament rolling, having won 5 of their last 6. Their defense has been playing better as of late and they have the offensive firepower to compete with any team in this conference. Given how tight the top 8 seeds in the Horizon are, It would not surprise me to see Milwaukee win a couple games and give the top seeds a challenge.
