ASUN Conference Tournament Preview and Predictions

The ASUN conference tournament is the first conference tournament to tip off in 2024, starting with two games on Monday March 4th. All games will be played at the higher seed’s home arena, with the exception of the 7 vs 8 and 9 vs 10 matchups which will be played at the host of the next round’s arena.

Here are some teams to watch in this tournament:

#1 Eastern Kentucky: EKU is my pick to win this tournament. They are the #1 seed and will have home court advantage throughout. They are a well balanced team who can do it on both sides of the ball. They went 8-0 at home in conference play, and I expect their balance and home court dominance to propel them into the NCAA tournament despite a 4-9 stretch out of conference to start their season.

#4 Austin Peay : Austin Peay has won 7 of their last 8, including a double OT thriller over their first round opponent North Florida. Austin Peay doesn’t play much defense but they are a solid offensive squad who doesn’t really turn the ball over. They have had the best offense in the conference over the past month and I think they could make some noise in this tournament.

#3 Lipscomb : Lipscomb has a similar profile to Austin Peay in that they are strong offensively, weak defensively, and take care of the ball. They have also won 7 of their last 8 and are certainly a threat to win the tournament. I picked Austin Peay to pull off the upset in my projected semi final matchup, but Lipscomb is a program with strong recent success and I would not count them out by any means.

#7 FGCU : Florida Gulf Coast has been playing better basketball as of late, and I think they could put together a couple of wins in this tournament. They have been playing the best defense in the conference over the past month, and if they can get past Queens in the first round they play Stetson next, who they beat by 24 at home and lost to by just 1 point on the road. FGCU is my sleeper pick of this conference tournament.

#2 Stetson: Although I picked Stetson to lose their first game, they are the #2 seed for a reason and certainly capable of winning this tournament. They picked up a win over UCF in their non con schedule and have the offensive firepower necessary to win this tournament.

My Bracket Prediction:
